The matter involving the theft of hundreds of millions of dollars misappropriated from the Chookolingo Empire is finally before the High Court and before Justice Nadia Kangaloo.

​

This follows a report made by Daniel Chookolingo to the Fraud Squad, the BIR and other bodies to recover monies estimated to be more than $200 million from Dawn Ford and disappeared into thin air. Daniel is the founder of Newsday which he successfully launched in 1993. The case revolves around an attempt by one of the directors of Newsday to take-over of the company, utilizing at least 3 attorneys and auditors, PKF, who were all engaged in manipulating the appointment of Dawn Ford, Daniel’s sister, to the family’s company board, CHL. After Dawn Ford’s illegal appointment she transferred un-quantified company assets for a measly $8 million from the family owned holding company. Most of the dividends also disappeared in the years leading up to the asset sale with the presentation of all manner of fraudulent reports and documents that were referred to by Dawn Ford but never produced despite several requests to produce them.

The professionals who were paid to cover for Ford in the illegalities were attorneys Ms Deborah Peake SC, Michael Quamina SC and former PNM senator, Michael Coppin, and the well-known auditing firm of PKF (Pannel Kerr Foster) to manipulate the company’s shareholders meetings and saw the illegal transfer of these assets, according to the company AGM minutes. The fraud was only found out when the AGM minutes were eventually sent out in 2022 because of a pre action protocol letter.

These 3 crooked attorneys named are well known and respected in high circles. They are: Deborah Peake SC, who then went on to represent the Government of T&T for most of their high profile cases like Petrotrin, Clico and the PNM election petitions. Michael Quamina SC, became the Chairman of the multi-billion dollars State-owned Trinidad Petroleum Holdings, the successor to Petrotrin. Michael Coppin whose claim to fame is that he served as a PNM senator.

TTJF is currently doing research work on auditors, PKF who the AGM minutes show their representative Mr Mark Superville, attended CHL meetings for some 9 years but in those 9 years never once produced an audited report but continued to fraudulently attend meeting to say nothing except to show support for Dawn Ford in order to hoodwink shareholders by assuring them that all was well with the books as PKF had oversight. What TTJF investigation has found so far is that many of PKF clients show a deep link to influential government business dealings and more will be revealed in the coming weeks.  Suffice it so say that it shows interlocking interests with some of these PKF companies and the government.

This unholy alliance with these attorneys and PKF saw the hundreds of millions of dollars being siphoned and the assets, primarily the Newsday assets, were sold or virtually given away to Steve Castagne who once sat on the boards of Clico, Airports Authority, the Chairman of the PNM controlled Diego Martin Regional Corporation and many other influential boards. He also owns M&M Insurance. 

 

While Ford was committing all these unspeakable crimes she was telling CHL shareholders that they must only listen to the company auditors and attorneys who are professionals and it is the previous management that ripped off the company. However, the previous audits show it was the previous management that took the company from being marginally profitable to growing substantially since 1986 up until when Dawn Ford fraudulently got appointed and systematically spirited away the dividends and assets. Even the substantial printing press which was worth millions was given away for $20,000. (thousand).

Many of the hapless siblings of Dawn Ford believed the bogus stories she fed them in believing that auditors and attorneys will not sacrifice their professional integrity for a “small company” she portrayed CHL to be. But the company was not small and besides the hundreds of millions in value, it was the only media company that would buck the suspect lines peddled by the government of the day as intended by the founder, Patrick Chookolingo.

For over 10 years there were no financial reports and Dawn had shareholders literally begging for a handout. Those who played hard ball were given the most. Her brother, Paris, lived it up high by travelling the world. Another Brother, Glenn, who never worked but was a thorn in Ford’s back, suddenly migrated to the US and is now Ford’s staunchest supporter. Apparently, the more you resist Ford’s crookedness the more you were paid to keep quiet.

Highlights of The Lawsuit Against Daniel Showing The Offences Ford Committed as follows:

• The Police report filed was based on criminal admissions of Dawn Ford herself contained in AGM minutes of the family owned business that showed how she and her accomplices ripped off hundreds of millions in assets and Dividends.

• Failure to Inform The Court that The Police Report Accused Ford & Her Attorneys and Auditors of *Fraud *Conspiracies *Bribery *Tampering With Evidence *Obstruction Of Justice *Illegal Disposal of Assets and Dividends * Theft *Failing To Pay BIR * Using Company Funds As A Slush Funds For Illegal Activities. 

• The report that Daniel was guilty of intermeddling in the estate of his mother is false since Daniel is the executor of his father’s estate who is the actual owner of the property.

• Failure By Ford To Disclose Important Facts That Show Her Complicity and Her Co-Conspirators

• Use of Deceitful Arguments and Hearsay By Ford

• Use of Affidavit by Ford To Scandalize Daniel In The Eyes Of The Court

• Failure to Disclosure The Attorney Mr Coppin, Who Filed the Claim, is Part Of the Rip-Off of the Assets.

• Purported Removal of Chattels By Daniel Was False & Very Deceitful

• Failure to Disclose Ford Lived Outside T&T.

• Abuse of Process, Fraudulent Claims and Contempt of Court Against Ford and Her Current Attorney Mr Coppin.

The Court papers also showed that Justice Nadia Kangaloo was guilty of apparent bias for a series of decisions which include (a) granting an improper injunction (b) setting a date to file a defense without Daniel retaining an attorney (c) her refusal to dismiss the injunction after several inconsistencies and irregularities were shown with Ford’s Claim.

Sources tell TTJF that it is not known why the case was set for a December 2024 hearing but that is possibly another instance of apparent bias since this is an open and shut case for immediate dismissal and contempt of court. Daniel was advised to stay out of harm’s way until then since these people are well known for spiking food and water.

​

It’s still unknown how much of the hundreds of millions was received by Deborah Peake, Michael Quamina, Michael Coppin and Mark Superville for their respective parts in this brazen crookedness.
